Jon’s Daily Sesh | 12.14.2020 | Kinda High On Delta-8

Last week I picked up something a little different at Next Level Vaping here in the hi-desert – a vape cartridge of delta-8 THC oil, so I could get my first taste of this cannabinoid. If you’re scratching your head and wondering what the heck is delta-8 THC, then let’s talk a bit about this previously little-known cannabinoid that is quickly gaining in popularity, and for good reason.

Delta-8 THC is one of the two main THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) compounds found in cannabis and hemp. It is detectable in such small amounts, usually less than 1%, that the best way to use it is to extract it. Consequentially, delta-8 products are often vapes, tinctures and gummies. Delta-8 THC is federally legal but there are a handful of states where it is illegal – Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, Rhode Island, and Utah.

This cannabinoid has anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, and anti-nausea properties. It’s high is less psychoactive than regular THC (delta-9 THC) and many people find it gives them a mild high with no anxiety. Because of it’s stability it has a great shelf life, which has pharmaceutical companies interested.

The Buzz

Now, let’s get to the important question – did delta-8 THC get me high? Yes! But in a different kind of way… much mellower, with less rush to it, except for the first time I tried it.

My first couple hits of delta-8 really stoned me! I took about four or five hits off a vape pen and was kind-of blown away for about twenty minutes. Serious stoned feeling, and it felt like a regular THC buzz. But that was it. The next time I took a few hits – several hours later – the buzz was so much mellower, almost lightweight. And that’s how it’s felt ever since.

Because I rarely get anxiety from the herb I couldn’t say if this reduced my anxiety at all. What I did notice was that along with a quality head buzz, the vape gave me a nice body comfort, putting my body at ease, and relieving some of the aches and pains I was feeling.

I’ve had a handful of seshes with the vape pen, it’s so mellow that you can keep hitting it, and it has a pretty low ceiling on the high – at least the brand I was trying out. I was using a cartridge that was a Hybrid, but you can also get delta-8 carts that are both Indica or Sativa.

Kinda High

The cartridge I picked up a Next Level was by a brand called Kinda High out of Long Beach, California. Having lived in the LBC for twenty-three years I was curious to see how this brand rolled.

You can see from the photos that the packaging was first class. The cartridge comes in a sturdy box that has a button of the side you have to press in to open it. I had a little trouble with the button, but with the help of a pen pressing in the button I finally got it open. The interior is foam-lined, holding the cartridge firmly in place.

The cartridge itself looked like an Apple product… nearly clear oil encased in an all-white and clear plastic cartridge. The whole feel of the packaging was like Apple computers meets health care product. With the soft colors and the look and feel it seemed like Kinda High was marketing to a high-end, female clientele. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just an observation.

Taking Some Hits

First off… the vape from the cartridge was very smooth, and didn’t cause me to cough except once when I took too big a hit.

The flavor of the Hybrid cartridge is called Sour Pebbles. There is a Hybrid strain of cannabis that is called Sour Pebbles which is a cross of Alien Diesel and Fruity Pebbles that is supposed to have a sweet and sour taste. I doubt if the strain Sour Pebbles tastes like this cartridge, even though Kinda High uses botanical terpenes to mimic the flavor of Sour Pebbles.

The actual flavor was a very artificially sweet taste that immediately reminded me of my last visit to the dentist for a cleaning. At times it tasted like strangely artificial cherries and sometimes bananas. It took several seshes with the vape pen before I grew used to the taste, and with much concentration I could finally detect the sour flavor.

I liked the buzz, but not the flavor, so I’m going to try something else next time. Some people may really like this flavor. I don’t drink sodas because the flavor is too sickly sweet for me, but millions of people feel otherwise… so it comes down to a matter of taste. The Indica cartridge comes in a Bubblegum AK flavor and the Sativa cart is Strawberry Lemon Haze.

More Reading

There is a lot of great info out there about delta-8 – I’ve sorted through a bunch of articles and here’s few I found interesting…

Now that I’ve tried my first delta-8, I’m really curious to see how other brands handle this cannabinoid, so expect more delta-8 cartridge reviews in the future!

Until later, best of health.
