The Review

New Review Wednesday- 2021 | Episode #2 | Coastal Sun | Ice Cream Cake

“This Ice Cream Cake just melts your stress away… goodbye tough day!”

Stress melting, delicious Indica goodness, a sweetness that delights the senses and a euphoric lift – I call this one a top-notch “dessert herb”!

Ice Cream Cake is a cross of Wedding Cake and Gelato 33 – and it is an Indica-dominant hybrid. The jar that we looked at contained herb with 21% THC and was grown by Foothill River Farms as part of Coastal Sun’s Partner Farm Series.

Coastal Sun always puts something good in their jars so I had high expectations from this herb from their partner farm…

The herb was nicely trimmed and very well-cured – the eighth weighed in at 3.49 grams, and the jar contained one big nug and several smalls.

That very dense, rather large nug in the jar weighed in at 2.31 grams. The nug was so chunky that I thought that the herb had dried out when I first picked it up… but I was wrong – the cure was perfect and the jar moisture was just right.

When we filmed the review I quickly realized that this herb is something special. The Indica stone from the initial high left me seriously impressed… impressed in that way where you set the jar aside for the evening – like dessert time!

What is a dessert herb, you might ask? For me, a dessert herb has to have some sweet qualities to it – like a dessert should, and this one nailed that… the first taste was creamy and sweet, followed by a nice earthy flavor and then some gassy notes.

Smell

Cutting up the nug released a pungent, diesel, gassy smell, with just a hint of sweetness. There were some slight skunky notes – I love that! The more I smelled the herb the more aromas I detected – like rosemary – it had such a complex smell.

When I cut up the nug the herb got rather sticky. I always try and treat the herb with great respect – I don’t want to waste the trichomes by getting my fingers sticky, but with this one I couldn’t help it. My fingers were covered in a delightful aroma I wanted to keep smelling… lots of yum, and anticipation of what was ahead!

I always use my wide-base GRAV bong to test a new strain of herb. I know the feel of the bong, how it hits, and how to take a strong, powerful hit when I want to. But this herb made me want to go the opposite direction – I wanted to take in gentle, slow hits… I wanted to enjoy the flavor of the smoke so much I didn’t want to hurry the process.

Having A Sesh

The smoke from the herb was smooth and had a medium thickness. It took about five minutes for the high to fully hit – and then Ka-bammy, it hit like a hammer!

The herb had such a pronounced effect that there was a definite “before” getting stoned, and “after” getting stoned. The high was strong in the marijuana fuzzies. My body got sooo relaxed, almost too relaxed. Once I was stoned everything became rather… difficult – in that stony way – like trying to write this review. My fingers were stumbling all over the keyboard… and I’m very good at writing while stoned, so that says a lot about this herb!

After about fifteen minutes the initial effects of the high settled down into a euphoric buzz, full of body comfort. This was a high I really loved… contemplative, happy, good for brainstorming or chilling – just what I want to do after a good dinner meal while enjoying a cup of coffee…

At this point – now that my body was getting used to the herb, I had no problem writing.

The delightfully happy Indica stone lasted for over an hour… and when the effects started to fade, it brought me in for a landing, nice and easy. I did find out later that multiple seshes of this herb in a row will bring on a heavier Indica stone, one that made me want to lie down and take a little nap. Not that there’s anything wrong with a nice stony nap!

Just a side note: Later on, a day later, I smoked this herb using my pipe, and something seemed missing so I loaded a couple hits up in the bong – and there was the sweet flavor, and then Ka-bammy – what a stone! I’m recommending using the bong on this sweet herb because the pipe just didn’t do it justice.

Once again Coastal Sun has impressed me – this time by sharing some herb from their Partner Farm Series, Foothill River Farms. I give this two thumbs up and highly recommend this for Indica lovers, gassy, diesel lovers and anyone looking for a delightful dessert strain.

Until later, best of health.
